Though he knew others didn't often rise quite as early as he did, Xavier was at Namino City's Starter Laboratory at six o'clock AM sharp this morning. He wasn't sure what sort of Pokémon he would be leaving the place with, only that they were likely to be a good companion for his current one, this charming Natu that had hatched on the ship-ride over. As it turned out, the little bird was sort of shy, and Xavier was looking to choose a Pokémon that could give Natu the potential of coming out of his theoretical shell.
As Xavier stepped into the laboratory, causing the long dinging sound that those working the lab were oh so familiar with, his Natu shivered and snuggled closer to his neck from his shoulder perch. He wasn't quite certain about the world yet and felt safest as close to his trainer as possible. Xavier gave a shadow of a smile and stroked the bird with one finger calmingly before turning his attention to the bright screen covered in images of the Pokémon he was able to choose from.
There was a fairly wide range of choices, at least two of the starter Pokémon from each of the other major regions as well as a few odd ones of rare or hard to work with types. There was no way of knowing which Pokémon would have a good personality for Natu from the screen, though, so Xavier stood and stared at the screen until somebody appeared to help him. He would want to view quite a few different species to see which would be the best for him.

When Xavier opened the door, Professor Beech heard the chime that came from the door the caused the exhausted Professor to almost snort as she raised herself from her chair. Yet another sleepless night of Pokemon research. Good thing Xavier showed up, or else she might have actually had more than an hour of sleep! Either way, she shook away any trace of exhaustion, practiced a good smile and approached the new Trainer. "Hello there!" Beech said. She looked over to Xavier's Natu. "Oh, but it seems as though you already have a Starter! Perhaps you want another one with your Natu?"
She didn't even try not to yawn because she knew the attempt would be useless. "I'm sorry," she said. "I'm just a bit tired from the lack of sleep. So, do you have a Pokemon in mind? If you want to meet them, I could have them come out of their Pokeballs, and they can play with Natu for a bit."

Xavier nodded solemnly, looking at his Natu. The green bird chirped at him. He had already chosen what he wanted to pick from by looks alone, as he wasn't good with technology and preferred not to touch things he expected to break. He would try the first three of his own picks to see if any of them had a good personality for his Natu, but he had other choices if none of the revealed Pokemon were quite what he needed. It wasn't as though he needed a very strong Pokemon, just one with a good, friendly personality. "I wish to see a Tepig, a Chikorita, and a Squirtle." the man stated, staring straight at the professor with no expression. On the other hand, his Natu looked fairly curious, though he didn't seem to really understand what was going on.

Professor Beech shook off any signs of sleepiness and nodded at boy. "Alright then! Tepig, Chikorita, and Squirtle!" She press a few buttons on the machine as three Pokeballs rolled out of the cockpit one after the other. She unleashed the Tepig first, then Chikorita, then Squirtle.
Once the Tepig was out of his Pokeball, he stretched out his four legs before sneezing out a bit of fire. This Tepig in particular was a very relaxed Pokemon. A perfect fit for the Natu's timid personality, but this might not be the Pokemon that Xavier is looking for. One could tell that the Fire-Type was rather lazy.
The Chikorita popped out of her Pokeball pretty much skipping out of her feet. She was absolutely happy to see everything and approached Xavier and Natu no problem. She was by every means Jolly by nature, and was also a very good fit for the very Timid Natu. Although one could tell that Chikorita is rather ditsy and can't really keep her attention in one spot for very long. Also, she is a bit boisterous, which could spook the Natu a bit at first, but this is something that Natu can easily get over.
Squirtle was a very bold Pokemon, but very friendly as well. Xavier could tell just by looking at this Pokemon that he was a very little Pokemon with a very big ego. He also liked humans, but he liked Pokemon more. His bold attitude would also be a great contrast to Natu's personality, although this Squirtle is also prone to pushing other Pokemon around a bit to get his way. Though, this is something that can easily be trained out of him so that he will become a modeled Pokemon citizen in the Youso Region.
With all of the Pokemon interacting with the trainer and Natu their own way, Professor Beech yawned a bit before continuing her conversation. "Now, I for one don't think that your Natu will have a problem with any of these choices." she said. "If you wish to meet anyone else, just let me know, alright? Then, hopefully we can narrow down your choices and pick your Pokemon."
