Introduction

All has been peaceful and serene in the scientific land of Youso. Nothing particularly terrible has been happening, nobody has recently died of anything besides old age or extreme sickness, and the field of Pokémon science has been gaining knowledge and power. All over the place, laboratories have popped up seemingly overnight, promising to research things that will help to improve the lives of everyone, human and Pokémon, trainer and scientist, reporter and breeder. A small team of experts has even began work on finding a way to forge their way into the southern desert to make it inhabitable for humans.

There is one small issue, however. Every now and again, someone has disappeared. Not a single trace of their existence remains save memories and records that claim the person was real, that they had Pokémon or a medical history or an important task to fulfill. The people that had Pokémon when they disappeared have had their PC boxes emptied and deleted. Nobody has any idea what has happened to any of these people, only that they have disappeared from various places dotted around Youso and that they need to keep it out of the public eye. The authorities, both local and regional, have been carefully poking around where they believe the people were last seen.

New trainers are being cautioned to 'stay alert, be careful, and don't trust people you don't know well', but nothing is being explained to them to keep fear out of the public, to keep everyone from panicking and pointing fingers. Though the authorities would like these disappearances to stop happening, they would also like to catch the culprits and put them behind bars where they cannot kidnap people to do whatever it is they're doing to them.

But, other than that, everything's fine. Everyone, trainer, breeder, Gym Leader, and scientist alike, is going about business as usual. Nobody save the people whose loved ones have disappeared even realize what's happening behind the scenes and all around them. Though nobody knows what is happening to the people who have disappeared, no bodies have been found and the authorities believe them all to be alive somewhere, if not hurt or trapped.
