In a windowless laboratory hidden well away from prying eyes, two people of a scientific mindset conversed quietly. As per their superior's instructions, they hadn't been allowed to leave for a full week, which seemed to be putting those two, as well as everyone else, in a bad sort of mood.
"No, no, they can't let us leave because there's so much work to be done. Any 'secrets' are only because what we are doing will help everyone, and they want it to be a surprise!"
The second scientist leered at her moronic co-worker. "You are just eating up their falsities, aren't you? What are you, five? We're not exactly working on a way to make life all rainbows and fluffy bunnies, you know. We're obviously supposed to be--" She was cut off by a choking sensation, an arm around her neck pressing her trachea closed.
"Supposed to be doing what, now, dear? Please, enlighten us." The new voice belonged to a tall woman with dark hair and an even darker grin. She released her grip on the woman who had been speaking, who gasped for air and glared at the other woman without turning her head. The woman continued to smile as she spoke again.
"We are done here. Neither of you is to speak of what we are all working on, or you will lose breathing privileges permanently. And that, darlings, is exactly why you are not allowed to leave. Imperfect creatures, the lot of you..."
