Johnathan hesitated before walking into the Namino Laboratory, looking for a doorbell or a knocker or something. When he approached the door, however, it slid aside automatically, and he chuckled nervously to himself and glanced around before he stepped inside.
He was greeted with an electric-sounding 'ding!' and all sorts of information and gadgets and things trying to catch his eye. Most prominently, however, he saw the screen directly before him, with images of several Pokemon and a number next to each. The numbers were too low and improper ratios to be price, what with the rarer ones being lower so... stock, he supposed?

Work has been getting a bit more tiring lately. The increased influx of trainers combined with the increased concern over the recent cases has taken its toll on the lab. The shoe was on the other foot. Buckeye, in a daze, sat up from the desk. He suspected he'd dozed off, and the groggy feeling creeping up on him confirmed as much. The ding got him moving, as it always did - sure, this might have been one of those few occasions Buckeye had fallen asleep on the job, but these were concerning times. And it's only gonna get even more troublin', Buckeye complained as he headed towards the lobby.
The lobby's doorway slid open with a quiet shhhhwip, and Buckeye saw the new guest. The bright red hair stood out to him, at least more than the style it was kept in. Sure, it looked a bit messy, but the outfit gave him a decent enough impression that the young man might be respectful. "Hey, there." Buckeye kept his hands in the pockets of his labcoat, his casual lean against the doorway leaving a contrast with his stern expression and his rather tired looking eyes. "Place is a lot less intimidatin' than it might appear, but I admire your curiosity. This here facility is a lot simpler than it looks, y'know."

Startled out of his train of thought by the voice, Johnathan took a moment to gather his thoughts. "Well, that is, ah--good to hear. I'm not curious though, so much as interested in becoming a Pokemon trainer. Your web page said that this was the place to go for a trainer's permit and first Pokemon, correct?" He spoke quickly but clearly after his initial stumbling, standing straight and tall and maintained eye contact, though his hands were casually in his pockets.

Buckeye nodded, approaching Johnathan. "I ain't in charge of that kind of stuff, but I doubt they'd try to mislead ya." Getting woken up so suddenly kept Buckeye in a bit of fatigue; he was barely able to suppress a yawn. "Might seem a bit of formality, but name's Buckeye. Seeing as you're applyin' to become a trainer, it'd probably be good for me to know your name, too." The kid seemed polite enough to him that he could talk to him straight, without any nonsense. There was still a lot of work to do.
Buckeye himself seemed busy, but he was trying his hardest to make the whole visit not look like some sort of implication. As weary as he appeared, he kept his stern focus on the young man. "Anythin' happen to catch your eye? The ones at the bottom of the list ain't probably gonna be around in some time, if you're into the rarer types." He frowned a bit about what he had just said. "I mean, I ain't trying to sell 'em or anythin', just informing ya."

Nodding, the young man answered, "Johnathan Michael," and let the other continue for a moment. At the second question, he hesitated for a moment while looking at the board. Before long, though, he spoke up with, "I think I'd rather just take a Snivy, if it's all the same." He smiled a little, though it seemed more polite than genuine. "I take it there are forms I need to fill out, or..? I'm afraid I'm woefully unaware of local procedure, as I just moved to the region this past week."

Buckeye shook his head. "Nah. Process is actually pretty simple. I suppose you wouldn't wanna broaden your options, then." As tired as Buckeye was, he was refreshed to see a trainer so direct. Imagination was to be appreciated, but this young man seemed to have a bit of a plan, even if he wasn't too aware of the Trainer initiation procedure. "'Scuse me for a moment."The old man stepped over to the machine, rolling the monitor up with a few presses. The Pokemon vending machine implement stood silent for a moment, then sprung to life as Balls rolled into each of its slots. Buckeye pressed one of the machine's many buttons, and the machine popped out one of its Balls. Out of the ball came a Snivy, which carried some sense of self-confidence. She had her arms crossed, eyes coolly focused on Johnathan. It seemed she was trying to tell him that he was making the right choice. This moment of composure was quickly brought to a halt by a sputter made by the vending machine. It wobbled the tiniest bit, as Buckeye raised a brow in confusion. "Huh? This ain't happened before." The machine ejected - or rather, simply dropped - another Ball from within. It rolled in Johnathan's direction slowly before opening up plainly. Out came a Chikorita, who seemed content with herself, snoring. The Grass type was at ease, under a deep sleep. The Snivy looked shocked for a moment, almost insulted that another Pokemon would show up to try and upstage her. After looking at her competition, however, she regained herself and looked back to Johnathan. "Sorry, kid. Musta been a glitch in the machine. The Snivy's still your choice, though, right?"

Cracking a smile at the...'antics' was a bit too lively for what just happened, but worked well enough--Johnathan bent down and popped the Chikorita back into its ball, stood up and handed it to Buckeye. "It is indeed--er, I suppose I ought to find out its gender and name it? Do I just ask it, or...? I'm--not very good with pets." He blinked. "Pokemon," he quickly corrected himself, then shrugged. "...Either, really."
[ehe I'd probably have him name and be out but I can't justify him knowing gender at this point and the name I'm gonna give is probably different than the one I would if it were male SO sorry about that eheh,,,]

Buckeye shrugged and took the ball containing the Chikorita from Johnathan's hands. "Thank ya," he said as he grabbed it and went to return it to its slot. The Snivy looked up at Johnathan expectantly. It seemed she was rather anxious to finally leave the laboratory. "It's not too difficult t'fine out what kinda gender they are, but I guess it's unclear at first glance. Know f'sure that this one's a female, though. You can trust me on that one," the old professor told him as he returned the Snivy to her ball to hold onto it.
He didn't appreciate his regard of Pokemon as simple pets, but then again, he also wasn't the type to judge. "Y'wanted a trainer's permit, isn't that right?" Buckeye went to retrieve a card from the drawers near the monitor, as well as a starter's bag a few drawers down, and walked over to another section of the room. There was an oddly old-looking camera stationed there, pointed at a chair in front of a solid blue-colored wall."Now, Johnathan, if y'don't mind sittin' there for a sec, I can take your picture and you'll be on your way." He got behind the camera, preparing to take a shot as soon as Johnathan was ready.
