Digging Underground
Certain Pokémon can learn the TM called Dig, which is somewhat hard to come by. Though this attack is special here, it will take up a normal moveslot as it can still be used in battles. When Dig is used outside of a battle, the Pokémon can burrow into the ground and find items or fossils. The chances for finding anything at all are low, but the items you may find this way are well worth the effort!
Things you may find include the following: Occasionally, and in certain areas, a Pokémon may follow the digger back to the surface. The Pokémon may be battled, but most of the time just wants to join the trainer's party. The list will vary with each area that this might occur. Some areas will have no Pokémon residing beneath the earth at all.

Berries
Each trainer is given six different common berries when they retrieve their starter from the main laboratory. Beyond that, trainers must find their own berries on their travels. There is a chance of finding a berry bush or two every time a mod posts for a trainer's thread. There are rumors of a few nice people out there that give away rare berries, but nobody has been able to confirm this.
To grow berries, the trainer must go to Carbon Farms. There, they will be given a small plot for free. The plot contains one randomly-chosen common berry tree and places to plant nine more berries. It is wise to leave a Pokémon of moderate strength at your plot to watch over it, as wild bird and bug Pokémon will eat your berries or destroy your plants entirely if you leave for too long. Larger areas may need two or three Pokémon to guard them.
If you need more berry plots, you may purchase a larger area for planting for a fee, which contains 50 plots in addition to your original 10. An even larger orchard is available, and it contains 100 additional plots. If you really need even more plots, an extra 10 can be bought for a fee, or you may buy the other two sizes again for the same price as they were originally purchased.
Common berries take one real-time day to grow into full, fruit-bearing plants, and you have five additional days to harvest them before the berries are no good. Uncommon berries take three days to grow and must be harvested in three days. Rare berries grow in five days and must be harvested within two days. Extremely rare berries take a full week (seven days) to grow and must be harvested within a day of maturing. As in the games, berries that are not harvested in time fall off of the plant and re-grow with the same time limits, meaning that even if you don't harvest your berries in time, you will not lose them forever. Watering your berries periodically will boost the number grown, but over-watering can flood the plants and cause them to die and have to re-grow.
Berries can be used for the same things as in the games; Pokémon food, happiness boosters, status healers, Poffin-making, etc. They can also be sold to the owners of the farm or the Poffin bakery, which can bring back a substantial sum if one has enough berry plants to harvest.

Youso's Pokédex
The regional Pokédex for Youso is somewhat different from your average everyday Pokédex. It contains the information for every single Pokémon that has been discovered; so long as the trainer has seen a Pokémon while in possession of their Pokédex, they can view some information about it. If new Pokémon are discovered, their information is automatically placed into every existing Pokédex via a wirelessly-sent update to the device's software. In addition, the Pokédex contains information about the trainer's individual Pokémon, such as their favorite and least favorite kind of food or berry, their Hidden Power type, and their contest stats. Trainers may add in their own information as they find it, if they like.

Gym Leaders Most of the Gym Leaders in Youso are considered almost celebrities. All of them have proven their worth through countless battles and are perfectly capable of taking on any trainer that comes through their Gym's doors. They get paid quite a bit of money for what they do, so they can basically pay to remodel their Gyms or add new buildings to their towns or whatever they like. Trainers that defeat Gym Leaders are given a large amount of prize money, no matter which Gym they defeat.
If something happens to a Gym Leader, or they no longer wish to lead their Gym, someone else will be approached and asked to take over the position. If there is no Gym Leader at a Gym, trainers will just have to wait for the new one to get their Badges.
Though there are eight Gyms, there have been a few different Gym Leaders at each location, so there are more than eight Badges that have been earned. If a trainer gets the Badge from a Gym that changes Gym Leaders, their old Badge is still perfectly valid and they can go back and challenge the new Leader for a new Badge that is equally as valid. All a trainer needs to challenge the Pokémon League in Youso is eight different valid badges from Youso Pokémon Gyms, they don't have to be a specific set of eight.
Having one badge allows traded Pokémon up to level 20 to obey the trainer, as well as allowing them to use Surf outside of battle. Two badges allows Pokémon up to level 30 to obey. A third badge makes Pokémon up to level 40 from other trainers obey their new trainer. Four makes Pokémon up to level 50 obey, while five allow the trainer's Pokémon to obey up to level 60. Level 70 Pokémon will only obey a trainer with six Badges, while Pokémon level 80 and 90 will only obey when a trainer has seven or eight Badges respectively. Any Pokémon from a trade that is over level 90 will not obey any trainer that has not completed the Pokémon League Challenge in its entirety, or at least has nine Badges.
