Okay, so you have your character; the obvious next step is to go to the laboratory and receive their first Pokémon. If you like, you can actually skip that altogether if you have a spare promotional Pokémon to give to your new character (this Pokémon can't just be pulled from thin air, in other words!). But after that? You decide! If you wish to follow the gym badge path, you can either go straight through the difficult Route 2 into Cadmiumberg where the first gym is housed, or you can go to Oxyville and follow the easier Route 3. However, you don't even have to hit the gyms in order! Every gym leader has several different teams of Pokémon they can use against trainers with varying team levels, so if you want to challenge Cadmium Gym last, first, third, whatever, go right ahead! There are eight gyms and eight badges to collect before you can get to the Pokémon League. The Contests are pretty much the same; you must get one Ribbon from each rank to be eligible for the final Contest. Winning the final Contest or the Pokémon League challenge wins your trainer all sorts of lovely prizes!
You don't even have to follow these challenges; you can take your trainer off to catch every Pokémon, or they can go explore, or they can not be trainers at all and go study science. If you want your character to be a Pokémon breeder and have nothing to do with contests or battles, that's also just fine. It's all up to you! |
