Instead of the standard equipment trainers may find themselves using in other regions, here in Youso a trainer will receive a Pokémon Resource (Pokésource for short) along with their first Pokémon and their starter kit. This object can be worn on a cord or chain around the neck, clipped to a pocket or backpack, or on a band around a trainer's wrist in a similar fashion to a watch. This item is extremely useful to any kind of trainer, whether they are a breeder, a contest challenger, or a gym battling trainer.
The basic function of the Pokésource is to tell the time, date, and season that Youso is currently experiencing. This function can also tell trainers what time the sun will rise and set and what phase the moon will be in when it is visible.
The device can be modified to have several features other than the basic ones by adding 'keys' that trainers can purchase or earn as they travel. Youso's Pokésource contains some information about Youso and its items, berries, gyms, contests, and tourist attractions, and holds a few secrets that can be found with the proper key inserts.
Everyone's Pokésource comes with the Map key, which can be used alongside the Pokédex to tell a trainer where they should travel to find a certain species of Pokémon. The Map key also tells trainers where the road will be blocked and which trains are and are not running, and which Pokémon are in the immediate area during that particular season.
One of the most useful keys that can be used in the Pokésource is the Item Finder key. It acts as the old, out-of-date Itemfinder and locates nearby items for the trainer to pick up if they choose. It is especially useful on beaches, where the sea washes up all sorts of lovely and useful items.
